Why Starnix?

Open source experts that extend your IT team

A little about us…

Starnix is a Toronto-based Linux and open source solutions company founded in 1998. For more than 25 years, we have helped businesses design, deploy, support, and improve Linux-based infrastructure with a hands-on, senior-level approach. We are known for being personable, practical, and deeply technical, with the experience to step into production environments and make sound decisions that keep systems stable, secure, and supportable.

Our background goes well beyond routine support. From teaching revision control software courses at Research In Motion and Symantec to video driver development for AMD/ATI, Starnix has built a long track record of delivering meaningful technical expertise and cost savings through open source technologies. Over the years, organizations such as Clover Leaf Seafoods, Dulux Paints & CIL, Expedia, Flight Centre, and the Department of National Defence have turned to Starnix to help them improve flexibility, strengthen security, and reduce IT costs.

Our team’s expertise is also reflected in the certifications we hold, including Linux Professional Institute LPIC-3, Cisco, AWS, OpenStack, and NetApp. These certifications reflect hands-on experience across Linux, networking, cloud, virtualization, and storage.

That depth of experience also helped shape our wider role in the Linux community. In 1999, the founders of Starnix went on to co-found the Linux Professional Institute, now the world’s largest vendor-neutral Linux certification body. That work later led to the launch of FOSSter, our mentored Linux training company.

For customers, it all points to the same thing: Starnix is not simply a vendor selling Linux services. We are a long-standing part of the Linux and open source community, with the experience and perspective to help businesses use these technologies well.
